This project explores the increasingly poignant topic of mental health and the complexities behind what often lies hidden. Due to strenuous demands on health care services, including access to counselling and medication, wait times have increased dramatically, meaning many people who do not have close family or friends, are left without little or no support.

The Green Flower is an observation of a young man who is desperately longing for a life of peace and inner growth. But continually comes up against the constraints of a society which he believes is failing him. Due to this, his outlet for relief comes from self-medication, which offers him a chance to escape, experimenting with art and taking walks in nature.

I hope by highlighting this heavily stigmatized issue and it’s possible alternative treatments, which are all too often overlooked by general practitioners, it will enable a more collective understanding on a topic that needs urgent attention.
